The Bemus Point-Stow Ferry underway at the narrows of Chautauqua. 1811-2020

This early map of Chautauqua County shows how central this Lake is to all who live here. It actually represented a link from the Great Lakes all the way down the rivers to the Mississippi River and to the Gulf of Mexico. The Ferry was the shortcut from side to side eliminating a 23 mile and almost three-day journey to get to the other side through woods, swampland and rutted trails. The Ferry has been at the center to Chautauqua County since 1811.

Ferry is closed until May 2022.
